How Do You See God?

“Every human problem begins with an inaccurate view of God” – Brad Bright

At the recent “Reclaiming America for Christ” Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL, these words by Brad Bright resonated with me. Whether the problem is abortion, pornography, opposition to prayer and Christian speech, or difficulty in my own personal walk, isn’t the root of our problem our view of God? It predicts belief and behavior.

Our view of God is revealed through our moral character. Bright went on to say, “It is impossible to keep our moral character sound when our view of God is inadequate or unsound.” With that in mind, as we view the world around us, it is obvious that, as a nation we no longer have an accurate view of God. Consequently, the direction our nation is taking is discouraging and frightening. It often feels like there is nothing an individual can do to change the downward slide.

I am overwhelmed when I think of the many fronts in the battle to preserve—or return to—our godly heritage. However, I can adjust my own view of God. I need to start with me. I need to examine my own life to find where my view is inadequate. I can certainly know the Lord better myself.

If I truly know God, He can use me to help someone else to have a more accurate and adequate view of Who He is. I can be an influence for change—if I demonstrate the nature of God to others and lead them to know Him.

Unquestionably, our nation has an inaccurate, inadequate, and unsound view of God. However, as individuals come to an accurate knowledge of God, our nation can be—and will be—impacted for righteousness.
